It may have been six months since Jane last got braided up to canter down centerline in competition, but the time off appears to have been nothing but beneficial for the sensitive, sometimes spooky, mare ridden by Marcus Orlob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pair returned to the show ring for the opening week of the 2026 Adequan Global Dressage Festival (Florida) and found themselves back in a familiar position\u2014first place\u2014but with a new, more confident attitude. They were unbeatable in the CDI3* held alongside the CDI-W during Lloyd Landkamer Memorial Week, winning Thursday\u2019s Grand Prix on a score of\u00a071.39%\u2014the only score above 70% in the class, despite a significant bobble in the tempi-changes\u2014and Saturday\u2019s\u00a0La Donaira Lusitanos CDI3* FEI Grand Prix Special\u00a0with 74.61%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was Jane\u2019s first time out since Aachen in July 2025, and she left all the craziness behind,\u201d Orlob said. \u201cUnfortunately, we had a little bobble in the ones, but then the other ones on the center line were good. I\u2019m happy for the horse to have a drama-free test, and hopefully it continues that way. I try to keep things really busy for her, and it\u2019s slowly paying off. We don\u2019t have a magic weapon, it\u2019s just time, consistency and giving the horse trust.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Orlob\u2019s program at home in Loxahatchee, Florida, consists of cross-training<\/a> between ring work, treadmill and hacking through the woods\u2014combined with lots of turnout\u2014to encourage Jane to stay calm, confident and engaged in different settings. When the pair arrive at AGDF, hacking is still the name of the game: To combat Jane\u2019s nerves, Orlob hacks her before training, sometimes riding over to the adjacent Winter Equestrian Festival jumper show ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, Orlob and the 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood (Desperado\u2014Zandra, Metall) owned by Alice Tarjan, missed a change on the diagonal of one-time changes, but otherwise presented a poised, powerful and uphill picture throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday I was actually shocked because she came in so good and then on the first [extended trot] diagonal she had her ears up and I said \u2018Go!\u2019 and then I thought, \u2018Whoa, this is way too much engine.\u2019 But she settled nicely,\u201d said Orlob, who rides the mare with Tarjan and gets training help from U.S. Dressage Team Chef d\u2019Equipe Christine Traurig. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
